Gov. Gregoire Helps Dedicate WSU-TC Wine Center
Governor Chris Gregoire was in Richland Friday to help dedicate the new Washington State University Tri-Cities Wine Science Center.
Wine industry leaders from around the state were on the campus to announce that the group has $17 million so far for the project, and is just $4 million away from achieving its goal.
WSU Tri-Cities, in coordination with the Washington State Wine Commission, have been trying to raise the money for the research facility for the last decade.
The Wine Science Center will be dedicated to the research of grapes and wine to make the quality in Washington state the best it can be.
Governor Gregoire said this is a huge step towards achieving the goal of being the wine capital of the country.
"It is an opportunity for us to continue to be number one in the world in terms of quality," Gov. Gregoire said. "So this is a tremendous investment for our industry."
Construction on the facility is expected to begin in about a year.
