Tony Winner Shares Story of Addiction and Recovery
A Tony Award winning actor, singer and dancer will be the featured speaker during a symposium tonight in Yakima.
Ben Vereen will be speaking with attendees at the 28th Annual Merrill Scott Symposium Banquet.
Vereen's lecture will focus on alcohol and drug rehabilitation -- Vereen spearheaded his own organization, "Celebrities for a Drug Free America," after dealing with drug abuse and addiction.
He now wants to share his recovery story with those at tonight's banquet.
"Hey, I survived the 60's (laughs), that's good in that alone, that's why I can tell my story," said Vereen, "In telling your story, we're all the same, somebody else is going through the same thing, [it] Will help them. That's how we help one another, that's what this is all about."
The banquet is open to the public at the yakima visitors and convention center on North 8th Street and Yakima Avenue.
Dinner will start at 7 p-m.
