Kennewick accepting applications for open city council seat


From the City of Kennewick:

The Kennewick City Council is accepting applications from citizens interested in appointment to a vacant City Council position, representing Ward 2.

The individual appointed to this position will serve until the election in November.

The position is vacant due to the recent appointment of Mayor Pro Tem Sharon Brown to the State Senate.

The City Council will accept applications for appointment to this vacancy until 5:00 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2013.

To be considered, all applications must be received by that date.

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, a registered voter, and resident of Kennewick for at least one year and have demonstrated a willingness to actively represent the interests of the citizens of Kennewick.

In addition, applicants must reside in Ward 2, located generally between Union Street and Olympia Street, north of W. 19th Avenue and between Union Street and South Vancouver Street south of W. 19th Avenue.

Interested applicants can determine their residency by checking their Voters Registration Card, or by contacting the Benton County Auditor’s Office at 736-2727.

Once applications are collected, the City Council will interview candidates during a special Council meeting in March and then select a candidate to fill the vacancy.
