The Washington State Patrol continued to rescue victims to the icy highways Tuesday night.

Before 9 a.m. troopers responded to 20 wrecks to start the day.

More than 40 as of 3 p.m. Tuesday and those numbers continued to climb through the night.

Trooper Chris Thorson said it's been a while since our area has seen anything like this.

"The last time I can remember it being this bad it was about 12, 13 years ago because typically the Mid-Columbia does not get a lot of snow, we're not Spokane," said Trooper Thorson.

"It takes a lot of resources to deal with it because we are really not used to dealing with it all the time," he said.

WSP reminded people that speed is the biggest factor and everyone needs to slow down.
